In church last sunday, the minister was showing a slide show of rivers and streams and waterfalls; and, the background music was of God being the river of life. As I watched and listened, this idea came to me. I think it would make a great sermon, if you can get the picture.
Human beings are just a bag of water; 98% I think. So God made us, not to just receive his life giving water as a vessel only, but to be a part of it. Close your eyes and magine the christians gathered in the church as blobs. Remove the outer shell and see blobs like cousin It in the Adam's family. As they join hands, the blobs of water flow from one to the other, becoming a mighty stream. Picture the stream flowing back and forth as the Spirit moves.
Think about the attributes of water. As it flows down from the mighty mountain in a rushing torrent clear and sweet, it feeds into the various tributaries and streams. We are those tributaries and streams. Everything we touch should be turning green and be given new life; just as in the desert after the rains come. The dry parched earth is sitting there waiting for the lifegiving water. The fingers of water flowing into every nook and cranny seeking out the little lost seeds.
After the water feeds the dry earth, it moves on into creeks and ponds. However, the water has to watch out for pollutants that can muddy the water and lead it to a deadend where it can become stagnant or dry up. Or, become hard and frozen in the cold and icy south lands of Antartica. We have to stay moving in the main stream to continue to give new life to the dry and dying world. Moving water does not freeze.
There is an old song that goes like this:
"THERE'S A RIVER OF LIFE FLOWING OUT FROM ME.
IT MAKES THE LAME TO WALK AND THE BLIND TO SEE
OPENS PRISON DOORS, SETS THE CAPTIVE FREE.
THERE'S A RIVER OF LIFE FLOWING OUT FROM ME!
From one blob to another: Praise be to our God, as we join him in the River of Life touching every dead thing we can find and giving new life! I hope you can use this thought to bless and encourage others.
